Vienna International Airport has become the first airport in Austria to implement the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) e-freight standard to streamline its supply chain for air cargo.

IATA e-freight is a paperless process designed to improve speed and reliability, while reducing transportation costs.

It is an industry-wide initiative, which involves carriers, freight forwarders, ground handlers, shippers and customs authorities.

The e-freight implementation, led by Emirates Sky Cargo and Lufthansa Cargo, began in April this year and is already operational in 27 other countries.
