Passenger traffic at UAE airports has recovered with a 12.3% growth in May to 54,000 traffic movements, compared with the same period in 2009.
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority said May traffic achieved its highest annual rate for the month – in May 2009 the airport recorded 48,000 traffic movements, according to gulfnews.com.
In May, average daily traffic movements rose 12.3% to 1,744, compared with 1,553 traffic movements a day in the same month last year.
Dubai International Airport achieved the highest number of traffic movements with 24,465 flights, 45.3% of the UAE total, while transit flights rose by 22%.
Abu Dhabi International Airport ranked third with 8,064 movements, 15% of the total traffic in May.
Sharjah International Airport ranked fourth with 5,393 movements, an increase of 10% of the total, while Fujairah, Al Ain and Ras Al Khaimah Airports made up the rest.
The International Air Transport Association has predicted that traffic in the Middle East will grow by 15.2% in 2010, over two and a half times faster than the global average of 5.6%.
