Malta International Airport Sees May Traffic Soar

Malta International Airport's passenger traffic increased by 19.5% to 307,292 in May, undeterred by the effects of the Icelandic volcanic ash crisis.

Traffic for the first five months in 2010 rose by 7.7%, compared with the same period last year, to 1,049,580.

In May, flight movements increased by 13.8%, seat load factor rose by 2.8%, maximum take-off weight went up by 13.2% and cargo by 16.9%, compared with the same period in 2009.

International passenger traffic to Europe registered a strong growth with Spain posting an increase of 134%, Italy 31.7%, Germany 21.7% France 14.8% and the UK 6.8%.
