Australia's Brisbane Airport will start receiving direct flights from China in November this year, a move that could see it accept an additional 3,600 passengers each month.

They will be the first direct flights to depart from China and land in Queensland since 1997.

China Southern Airlines plans to operate three weekly services on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from Guangzhou to Brisbane from 1 November.

The airline will operate Airbus A330 aircraft with 1,700 seats for its Brisbane service.
