New Doha International Airport, built at a cost of QR45bn ($12bn), will be officially unveiled on the National Day of Qatar on 18 December 2011.

The facility, with an initial passenger capacity of 28 million, will handle 50 million passengers and two million tons of cargo each year when fully developed, according to the Gulf Times.

It will be the world’s first airport that will be designed to handle the double-deck Airbus 800-A380 aircraft.

More than 70% of the construction work has already been completed on the airport so far.
