A new international airport outside Mecca (Makkah) in Saudi Arabia, said to be the holiest meeting site in Islam, will soon be built to cater for the growing number of religious tourists visiting the city.
The decision to build the airport was made during the General Authority for Civil Aviation’s (GACA) annual report at the eighth ordinary session of the Shoura Council, according to arabnews.com.
The proposed international airport will be located outside the Haram area and will allow both Muslims and non-Muslims to travel to the region.
A large number of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims will benefit from the new airport.
