Traffic at Hong Kong International Airport increased by 6.5% during March 2010, driven by strong passenger demand from Asia.

The airport handled 4.2 million passengers in March, an increase from 3.9 million in the same period last year.

The airport recorded an year-on-year increase of 11.1% in international passengers and a 9.4% rise in domestic passengers in March.

Cargo traffic increased by 30% to 347,000t from 268,000t in the previous year, with a year-on-year growth of 31% in imports, 39% in exports and 10% in transhipments.

In the first quarter of 2010, the airport handled 12 million passengers, an increase of 6.7%; 905,000t of cargo, a 34% rise; and 70,100 aircraft movements, an increase of 1.2%.
