The Brunei International Airport upgrade project has received interest from 60 companies in various countries.
Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) acting chairman Dato Paduka Timothy Ong said the board advertised extensively for the project and received an overwhelming response.
The upgrade will include major repairs to the existing terminal building to meet international standards, the strengthening of the existing runway and the provision of additional aerobridges.
The project will also include modernising the existing operating systems to enhance passenger and flight security, according to the Brunei Times.
It will focus on the Brunei Department of Civil Aviation’s efforts to upgrade the existing security and comfort of visitors and passengers at the airport.
The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam approved the project, which aims to enhance the appearance and the quality of amenities at the airport, built in 1974.
