Munich Airport Reports 11.4% Passenger Rise

Germany's Munich Airport has reported an 11.4% increase in passenger traffic, with a figure of 2.9 million in March 2010 compared to the same month last year. The airport also recorded a year-on-year increase in passenger traffic of 3% to 7.2 million in the first three months of 2010.

Passenger numbers in the long-haul segment were up by 11% in the first quarter of 2010.

Traffic on European routes increased more than 4%, while traffic within Germany dropped slightly in the first quarter.

Munich Airport’s traffic showed positive trends to international routes including the UK, followed by the United Arab Emirates, the US, Italy and Turkey.

During the first quarter, the number of flights handled at the airport was 5.7% lower compared to the same period the previous year.

The airport handled almost 58,000t of flown airfreight and airmail in the first three months of 2010, an increase of 25% compared to the same period last year.
