The Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport in the US will open on 23 May, with 93% of the $318m airport relocation project now complete.

The Federal Aviation Administration will carry out a final pre-inspection of the 10,000ft runway in mid-April and a concluding inspection in mid-May.

The Transportation Security Administration is currently carrying out a series of tests on the 16,000ft2 automated baggage system for three to four weeks.

The seven-building terminal complex, built at a cost of $63m, will be handed over to the Airport Authority by mid-April, according to newsherald.com.

Technicians from Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines and rental car companies will soon begin installation of equipment, computer systems and furniture into their allotted spaces.
