Kota Kinabalu International Airport's (KKIA) Terminal 1 will be handed over to the Malaysian Transport Ministry in April following an expansion costing RM720m ($215m).

The expansion project, which started in 2006 through a federal government fund, included the construction of a new building, upgrading the old building and extending the airport's runway, according to Bernama.com.

The expanded terminal is designed to help the Malaysian Government further develop the nation's tourism sector.
