Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport in Fujian, China will build a new runway and add 27 aircraft stands as part of an expansion plan.
The Chinese airport, which currently has 53 gate positions, will add another 80 gates, according to WhatsOnXiamen.com.
Xiamen International Airport Group deputy general manager Wang Yan said the airport also plans to build a new runway large enough to accommodate the Airbus A-380.
A new terminal building will also be constructed for international flights while the old terminal building will be dedicated to low-cost airlines.
According to reports, a new airport will also soon be constructed on Dadeng Island, covering an area of 46km².
The proposed airport in the Xiang'an District of Xiamen is expected to be complete by 2018 and operational in 2019.
