Auckland Airport Reports Rise in 2009 Passenger Traffic

Auckland Airport's total passenger traffic increased by 2.3% to 6,782,242 in the six months ending 31 December 2009. According to Auckland Airport, the increase in passenger traffic was mainly driven by the rise of trans-Tasman routes and the growth in domestic travel passenger numbers.

According to Auckland Airport, the increase in passenger traffic was mainly driven by the rise of trans-Tasman routes and the growth in domestic travel passenger numbers.

Auckland Airport's international passenger volumes, excluding transits, also rose by 1.4% during the same period.

The growth in international passengers was mainly due to competitive airfares and the increased availability of seats.

Driven by strong competition, the airport's domestic passengers increased by 6.1% to 3,046,882 in the six months ending 31 December 2009.

Its operating earnings before interest, tax and depreciation (EBITDA) stood at $138.8m in 2009.
