Munich Airport has reported a 5.4% decline in passenger traffic in 2009, with just under 32.7 million passengers passing through its gates.
During that period, the airport's domestic passenger traffic fell by 6.5% and European passenger traffic declined by 5.9%.
Munich Airport attributed the slide in passenger traffic to the global financial and economic crisis, which did not leave the airport's traffic figures unscathed in 2009.
The decline in passenger traffic was mainly seen as a reflection of weak demand in the business travel segment, despite the rise in personal travel.
The airport noticed an end-of-year recovery in the quarterly passenger figures, although the overall passenger traffic declined year-on-year.
Airport revenues also declined by 3% to €844m (US$1bn) in 2009.
