Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in Germany has registered a 3.5% increase in passenger traffic in January 2010, compared to the same month in 2009, despite poor weather conditions.

In January 2010, FRA handled nearly 3.7 million passengers.

The Fraport Group's five majority-owned airports also showed positive trends after handling a total of five million passengers in January 2010, which is 6.6% more than in January 2009.

Lima Airport (LIM) handled nearly 818,000 passengers, which is a year-on-year increase of 10.7%, and Antalya Airport (AYT) handled 513,000 passengers – an increase of 26.6% compared to the same period last year.

Fraport executive board chairman Stefan Schulte said that the January results confirm the positive trend seen in recent months and that overall traffic is showing fair rates of growth.

"Our calculations indicate that the severe winter days in January cost us 1.0 to 1.5 percentage points in the passenger sector," Schulte said.

Airfreight tonnage also increased 32.2% in January after 157,637mt of airfreight was recorded at FRA.

Adverse weather conditions negated aircraft movements by 0.5% to 35,278 takeoffs and landings at FRA.
