Government Offers to Manage New Terminal at Melaka Airport

The State Government of Melaka has offered to manage the new RM190m ($55m) international terminal at Melaka International Airport in Malaysia.

The Melaka State Government, along with its partner Senai Airport Terminal Services (SATS), has forwarded the proposed takeover of the terminal management to the present operator, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).

Melaka International Airport will be officially unveiled later this week.

The airport features a new 7,000m² terminal that can handle domestic and international flights and accommodate 1.5 million passengers annually.

The state government said that the airport tax, which currently stands at RM52 ($15) a passenger, is expected to be reduced if the proposed takeover is complete.

AirAsia has offered to manage the Melaka Airport terminal.
