Kiev Boryspil International Airport in Ukraine will install a new baggage handling system as part of an upgrade proposal in view of the forthcoming European Football Championship.

Ukraine will co-host the event with Poland in 2012.

Vanderlande Industries has been awarded a €9.6m ($13m) contract to install the system in Terminal D of the new international passenger terminal, which is expected to be complete by 2012.

The terminal is expected to cater for the additional passenger traffic.

The system will include 60 baggage check-ins, inline screening, a Helixorter tilt-tray sorter, lane-based early bag storage for 750 bags, make-up and arrival carousels, an all-new Vanderlande baggage reconciliation system and a CCTV system.

The installation is expected to be complete by the end of August 2011, ahead of the final match in Kiev.
