Angolan authorities have officially opened the new Mukanka International Airport ahead of the 2010 African Nations Cup.

The $144m (€100m) facility was completed in 11 months by Brazilian company Andrade Gutierrez and Zagope.

The airport has both international and domestic boarding halls, and a main runway measuring 3,200m in length and 60m width, which is expected to receive the Boeing 777 as well as other aircraft.

The project also included a lighting system for night operations and an apron for parking six aircraft.
