Siemens Works with Italian Airports on Baggage Handling

Siemens will carry out maintenance services on baggage handling systems at Malpensa International Airport and Linate International Airport in Italy.

Airport operator SEA awarded a $78m joint contract to both the companies for servicing and maintaining the existing baggage handling systems at Malpensa's Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 as well as at Linate Airport.

The work includes inspection, preventive and corrective maintenance, spare parts management and evolutive maintenance, which covers modernisation, extension and upgrading projects.

Under the contract, Siemens will implement an innovative system for maintenance management which will use radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology for spare parts management and to identify maintainable items.

Siemens, which holds the majority 60% stake in the contract, is a provider of transportation and logistics solutions.
