Construction of 4,000ft of runway is underway at Ogle Airport in Guyana.
The runway expansion is the second phase of the development project undertaken by the Guyana Government and is expected to be completed by late 2010.
Ogle Airport was awarded international status in 2009.
Construction of a 2,500ft runway, a terminal facility, aircraft taxi and parking areas, new traffic control and health and fire services are part of the first phase of development.
The $2.1m development project has been funded by the EU through the ninth European development fund.
