The acquisition of Bristol International Airport in the UK, by Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board (OTPP) and Macquarie Group has been authorised by the European Commission on 11 December.

The OTPP is expected to increase its stake in the airport which will be jointly control by OTPP and Macquarie.

OTPP already holds a stake in Birmingham International Airport in the UK as well as a non-controlling stake in Bristol Airport. Macquarie already owns a stake in Bristol Airport.

The Commission concluded that the transaction would not raise competition concerns as the catchment areas of Bristol Airport and Birmingham Airport overlap only to a minor extent.
