The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is working towards procuring and deploying airport security technology to screen both checked and carry-on baggage at every major US airport over the next year.

A total of $1bn has been allocated to the TSA for aviation security by the government.

Procurement of explosive detection system machines will begin in the next 30 days, and by December 2010 contracts are expected to be awarded for new machines.
