San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in Puerto Rico has launched a pilot paperless boarding programme.
The programme has been deployed by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in collaboration with Continental Airlines.
Passengers will now be able to receive boarding passes on their mobile phones or PDAs, which can be scanned at the checkpoint by TSA travel document checkers, eliminating the need for paper boarding passes.
An encrypted two-dimensional barcode, and passenger and flight information will be displayed on each paperless boarding pass.
