Airports of Thailand (AOT) says it will invest $2.3bn between 2010 and 2016 to expand the capacity of Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok.

The initiative will help increase passenger capacity from the current 45 million to 80 million at the airport.

The facility also received $275m from AOT in October 2009 to build a domestic passenger terminal which is expected to be complete between 2010-2013.

Once complete, the new passenger terminal will serve 65 million passengers a year.
