Atlantic City International Airport in the US is to undergo a $28m terminal expansion as part of an upgrade proposal to cater for more international flights at the airport.

The South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) has awarded a $27m contract to TN Ward Construction for the second phase of the project.

The contract will include expanding the existing terminal, adding three boarding gates and baggage carousels, relocating parking equipment and constructing a new 75,000ft² building which will serve as an inspection station for federal customs and immigration officials.

SJTA also awarded a $1.5m contract to O'Donnell and Naccarato to serve as project managers for the expansion.

Construction work will begin in mid-December and is expected to be complete within 18 months.
