A new departure lounge has been unveiled at Edinburgh Airport in the UK, marking the completion of phase I of a wider £40m terminal redevelopment initiative.
The new development was completed in three years and is designed to cater for an increase in passenger volumes which is expected to reach up to 13 million by 2013.
Construction work for the phase I project was undertaken by Balfour Beatty, a London-based construction, engineering, rail and investment services company.
Phase II of the terminal redevelopment initiative will include constructing a new central search security area on the first level of the building to double the airport’s X-ray machines.
The entire redevelopment initiative is part of BAA’s capital investment programme, and is expected to be complete in 2011.
