Honolulu International Airport in Hawaii, US, will soon be powered by wind energy, generated by a newly built electrical vault.
The $13.8m vault is equipped with 16 propellers and is expected to offer 100% emergency backup power to some sections of the airport.
The first electrical vault will be used to power the airport’s runway lighting, taxiway lighting and navigational aids.
A total of $100,000 was used to install 16 wind turbines in June 2009.
