The UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority has opened a new Air Traffic Control Centre (ATCC) in Abu Dhabi.

The $86m 'Sheikh Zayed Centre' is the largest air traffic management facility in the Middle East.

The centre hopes to minimise air traffic congestion and flight delays while helping aircraft fly shorter and more efficient routes over the next 20 years.

The centre features two main buildings which include a main 600m² ATCC and an emergency ATCC, which can accommodate more than two million traffic movements a year.
