The new Mar De Cortez International Airport located on the northern tip of the Sea of Cortez in Mexico is due to begin commercial operations today.
The airport features a 1.55-mile concrete runway and a provisional terminal building with two taxiways.
The runway currently accommodates Boeing 737s and 757s and can be extended up to 1,500ft to handle larger aircraft.
The airport and its new terminal facilities are expected to be complete by 2012.
