Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport has opened its new international terminal building, which will increase the airport’s capacity to 20 million passengers per annum by 2012.
Construction of the project was a completed a year ahead of schedule.
The terminal building includes a 5,000m² duty-free shopping area and an 8,000m² food court.
Sabiha Gökçen is the smaller of Istanbul’s two airports. It handled 4.28 million passengers in 2008, a figure expected to rise to 8.5 million in 2009.
