Keahole-Kona International Airport in Hawaii, US, is to receive a new air traffic control (ATC) tower through a $39m Federal Aviation Administration project.

Located on a seven-acre site north of the airport's passenger terminal, the new 100ft tower will offer controllers better views of the airfield.

Construction is expected to commence in December 2009 and be complete by May 2012.
