Edmonton International Airport (YEG) in Canada is to receive a new 107,000ft² control and office tower (COT), as part of a $1bn expansion initiative.

The new NAV CANADA control tower and office building will be built by a collaboration between EllisDon Corporation and Cohos Evamy integratedesign.

The proposed building has a sustainable design and features an expanded retail area, seven floors of office space and a new air traffic control cab.

The exterior features of a number of ribbons, akin to snow drifts, to offer shade in the summer months, and a decrease in the overall window-to-wall ratio of 40%.

Construction work is expected to be complete between 2011 and 2012.
