Airports in the US could soon get new explosives-detection technology to use during screening under plans set out by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
The TSA says it will acquire the CT-80 DR system from Reveal Imaging Technologies under a $30m contract.
CT-80 DR features on-screen viewing capabilities for conducting baggage screening and will be able to screen 225 bags an hour.
Check-in and carry-on baggage, air freight and parcels will be screened in a distributed network of detection machines using the technology.
The 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has generated funds for the project through the economic stimulus law.
