The Government of Scotland has scrapped a plan for a rail link to the Glasgow Airport following budgetary pressures faced by the government, Members of Scottish Parliament (MSPs) said.

The government said the Glasgow Airport Rail Link project could put its capital budget in jeopardy in a report made by the scotsman.com.

Scottish Finance Secretary John Swinney said the government is concerned about the rise in costs associated with the project after it came in with significantly higher estimates due to the need to relocate existing infrastructure.

The government will, however, continue with capacity and signalling improvements on the rail line between Glasgow and Paisley, and more resources will be allocated for the new Forth bridge.
