US Airport Opens New Runway for Safety

Aircraft will get to use a new 4,000ft runway at St Lucie County International Airport in the US when it opens today. The $15.3m runway 10L/28R is 75ft wide and located about 2,500ft north-west of the existing pair of runways at the Florida airport. St Lucie County Commission

Aircraft will get to use a new 4,000ft runway at St Lucie County International Airport in the US when it opens today.

The $15.3m runway 10L/28R is 75ft wide and located about 2,500ft north-west of the existing pair of runways at the Florida airport.

St Lucie County Commission chairwoman Paula Lewis told tcpalm.com that the runway would allow the airport to separate the small planes from larger ones, increasing airport safety.

The runway’s flight path has been mapped to reduce noise for nearby residents.
