Spanish troops will be handling security for seven months at Kabul International Airport under the rotation plan of Nato-led international security assistance force (ISAF).

A contingent of 66 soldiers and four police led by Colonel Ruben Garcia Servet, director of the Spanish Air Force Academy, will be added to the already deployed 1,300 Spanish troops in Afghanistan.

Spanish soldiers will undertake the security management at a time of increasing air traffic in Afghanistan due to ongoing general elections and growing incidences of violence.
