Construction of a $63m, seven-building terminal complex in Panama City-Bay County International Airport in the US has fallen behind target.

Only 44% of the terminal construction has been finished, a fortnight behind target, newsherald.com reports quoting senior official for the airport relocation project.

The main reason for the delay was extension of the baggage handling area, the official said.

Nearly 90% work on the terminal's roof is finished.

The completed terminal building will contain areas for security, rental cars, cargo and supply.

The contractor for the terminal, Walbridge, said that it would complete the project by the scheduled May 2010 date.

Total construction activity at the new $318m airport is 65% complete.
