The UK’s South Yorkshire Airport has resorted to distributing more than 200,000 leaflets to local households after admitting many people are unaware the airport even exists.

According to reports, the advertising campaign is part of an attempt to attract more passengers to the airport, which currently handles fewer than a million passengers a year.

Alongside a direct mail drop to 153,000 households within a 60-mile radius, the airport has sent out 50,000 16-page magazines to houses in the wider Yorkshire region.

The airport’s board also voiced concerned that road signage to the airport could be improved.
