Los Angeles International Airport in the US has awarded a €16m ($22.82m) contract to Kone to install and modernise elevators and escalators at the airport’s eight terminals.
The project will include maintenance, new installation, equipment repairs and upgrades. The company will also consider energy-saving products that will help increase the overall sustainability of the airport’s current transportation systems.
The project, the first of four phases planned for the airport, includes modernisation of equipment due to begin in September 2009 at terminals 2, 3, 5 and 6. The project is expected to be complete by July 2011.
The investment by the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners for the project will ensure that the airport meets all current health, safety and environmental standards, as well as providing dependable high-quality in-terminal transportation options for passengers and airport employees.
