Kalamazoo / Battle Creek International Airport in Michigan, US, will receive additional $6.63m grant from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for building a 92,000ft² terminal at an estimated cost of $40m.

The work of the terminal project is expected to begin on first week of July 2009.

The size of the grant approved by FAA plays a major role in building the new terminal. If the expected funding from the FAA decreases then the terminal would be downsized to 72,000ft², reports mlive.com quoting airport senior officials.

The airport has $26m for the expansion project and is planning for ceremonial ground breaking on 29 June 2009.

The new terminal will be fully operational by the end of 2011.

The project had previously been cancelled after groundbreaking in 2005 due to high construction costs and a shortage of federal funds.
