Dubai has earmarked $17.2bn (AED63.16bn) for the expansion of the country’s airports, it was announced at the Paris Air Show.

Out of the total amount, $7.2bn has been invested for the expansion of Dubai International Airport and the remaining $10bn was allocated for the construction of Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International Airport.

The expansion of Dubai International Airport includes Terminal 3 and the second concourse that opened in October last year, increasing the airport’s overall capacity to 60 million passengers a year.

The airport is also constructing concourse three which is expected to be complete by 2011 that will increase the airport’s capacity to 75 million passengers per annum.

The Al Maktoum International Airport, which is due to open its first phase in June 2010, will handle 160 million passengers and 12 million tons of mixed cargo per annum.
