Ft Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport has installed a new runway incursion detection and alerting system by Sensis Airport.

The system facilitates the air traffic controller in monitoring all the aircraft and vehicles on the airport in all kinds of weather conditions.

The surface detection equipment model ASDE-X integrates surface movement radar, transponder multilateration and automatic dependent surveillance - broadcast (ADS-B), and also has advance features such as conflict detection and alerting technology (Safety Logic).

According to Sensis air traffic systems vice president Tony Lo Brutto the US Federal Aviation Administration 'has determined that airport efficiency also increases through the use of ASDE-X as controllers provide more effective taxi instructions to pilots, translating into more on-time arrivals for passengers while saving fuel and reducing emissions'.
