The UK's Heathrow Airport has installed £300,000 of 'power poles' to allow passengers charge their mobile phones, iPods, laptops and other electronic gadgets.

The British Airports Authority (BAA) said that the 47 charging points can fit up to eight devices at a time and are currently installed in departure lounges of Terminals 1 and 3. They will soon be available in Terminal 4 in the future.

BAA's Juan Perez said: "We are confident that the power poles will provide an effective cost-free solution for charging devices."
