Senai Airport Terminal Services (SATS) have announced the launch of the multi-billion-ringgit Senai Aviation and Airport City mixed development project in the second quarter of this year.

The development is expected to be the first high-tech park connected to an airport directly in the world and will incorporate a flagship knowledge centre designed to attract investors from the aviation and avionics industries.

Residential, commercial and hospitality amenities will be featured in the first component spanning 323.74ha while an air cargo logistics centre and high-tech park will occupy 404.68ha each.

The project would be undertaken by SATS wholly-owned subsidiary Enigma Harmoni Sdn Bhd and is expected to take ten years to complete.

SATS deputy chief executive officer Shahrull Allam Abdul Halim, said that the high-tech park was a vital component of the development.

“It is a pre-requisite for companies operating in our park to have research and development elements,” Shahrull said.

Other facilities will include private medical centres, international schools, premium hotels and duty-free shopping centres.

The knowledge centre will incorporate collapsible office and laboratory incubator concepts where higher learning institutions could bring their undergraduates to undertake R&D studies or programmes with companies and industry.
