Germany's Fraport, the operator of the Frankfurt International Airport, has said that passenger traffic at its five majority-owned airports increased by 33% to a total of 7.2 million in April 2011.

Frankfurt Airport had 210,000 to 250,000 passengers in April, a 6-7% increase, while the home-base passenger traffic grew by 31% for the month to 4.6 million up from 3.5 million a year ago.

The airport's airfreight volume for the month rose 13% to 187,000t and aircraft movements climbed by 25.4% to 40,000 takeoffs and landings.

The Group said its majority-owned airports overseas also experienced strong growth in the month.

Antalya Airport reported 45.1% increase in passenger traffic to 1.6 million attributed to the special situation in the North Africa tourism market and to this year's Easter traffic occurring in April.

Peru's Lima Airport (LIM) witnessed a 23.6% increase in traffic to 920,000 passengers.
