The Metropolitan Airport Authority of Peoria (MAAP) has opened a new terminal at the General Wayne A Downing Peoria International Airport in Illinois, US.

The new 125,000ft² terminal, which was built at a cost of $65m, will be able to handle about one million passengers each year through 12 gates and ticket counters, gate areas, baggage claim and rental car desks all located on one floor in the main concourse.

The H-shaped terminal building features 40ft high ceilings, features to enhance security and an expanded concourse that will be able to accommodate more planes.

About $42m of the terminal project was financed through local tax bonds and $12.6m was met through the Federal Aviation Administration funds, with a $6.3m federal grant and less than $100,000 from the state of Illinois.
