A plane carrying 105 passengers crashed in northwest Iran yesterday, killing 72 passengers, including 12 crew members.
The IranAir Boeing 727, which took off from Mehrabad International Airport, crashed near a village 15km from Uroumieh Airport, its destination, minutes before it was due to land.
The flight was delayed twice before takeoff from Mehrabad International due to bad weather in Tehran.
The 33 surviving passengers were rescued by emergency crews, ten of whom are reportedly in critical condition.
Gholam Reza Masoumi, head of Iran's emergency services, said rescue work was made more difficult by heavy snow, which was about 27in deep around the crash site.
