Frequentis has modernised the air traffic control (ATC) tower in Antofagasta, Chile, with a voice communication control system under a contract from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation Chile.

The VCS 3020X system uses advanced interface technology such as sunlight-readable colour-touch panels for digital voice communications .

The system, based on a distributed and de-centralised architecture, provides a true parallel operation core switch with duplicated data and audio paths.

The VCS 3020X has built-in flexibility that allows it to adapt to future requirements, including support for integration within IP-based environments.

The system complies with EUROCAE WG67 specifications, and offers an integrated and independent IP A/G and G/G backup communication system.

Its basic functionality can include all kinds of radio connectivity, such as analogue, 2Mbit or fully IP, according to Frequentis.
