Male International Airport in the Maldives has introduced an advanced forensic document laboratory to enhance the detection of fake passports to curtail illegal entry into the country.

The lab system, set up by the Maldives Department of Immigration and Emigration in collaboration with Australian experts, is part of a plan to strengthen border control security in the country.

The new laboratory will be used by the airport authority to reduce illegal border activities and combat human trafficking.

The system has lead to the arrest of four Iraqi nationals, as they allegedly tried to enter the country under forged passports, according to minivannews.com.
