The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has called upon the global aviation industry to address the challenges related to cargo security and data collection at the AVSEC World summit in Frankfurt, Germany.
IATA director general and CEO Giovanni Bisignani said the supply chain approach must be driven by government and industry cooperation on investment, processes, technology and risk assessment.
Bisignani recommended the introduction of government-certified technology to screen standard size pallets and large items and speed up the process of implementing such technologies in airports.
The IATA chief has urged world governments to expand the use of e-freight from inbound shipments to outbound as well, and use this data to intelligently manage freight security.
IATA has recommended the streamlining of the data collection process and the development of a next-generation checkpoint.
“The supply chain approach must be driven by government and industry cooperation on investment, processes, technology and risk assessment,” said Bisignani.
